Evaluations:  Dr. Danis specializes in comprehensive neurodevelopmental evaluations of children from birth to age 15 years. A neurodevelopmental evaluation is considerably different from a routine pediatric examination.  Most developmental evaluations consist of several visits; the number of visits and the exact testing done will vary depending upon the age of the child and the nature of the child's difficulty.  Following the evaluation, a detailed report will be sent to you.  The report is a summary of the Doctor's diagnostic impressions and a list of recommendations for intervention services.

18 Months to Three Years of Age: Two visits plus written summary.

  • First visit - two hours in length with parents and child,
  • Second visit - 90 minutes in length with parents only
  • Detailed report including recommendations

The evaluation takes place in two visits.  The first visit is two hours in length.  During this visit, Dr. Danis will ask questions to get a more complete history of your child and more details about your current concerns.  While this conversation is taking place, Dr. Danis will observe your child playing freely with toys.  She will observe how your child plays, how your child interacts with you and with her, and how your child copes with being in a new place in an unstructured free play situation.  The doctor is also observing your child's motor skills and language development.  After this interview/observation period, the visit moves into an examination room for more formal developmental testing.  Here Dr. Danis works with your child to more specifically evaluate strengths or challenges in the realms of gross and fine motor development, language, problem solving and self-help skills.  A physical examination is also done.

If your child is in school or involved in intervention services, Dr. Danis makes telephone calls to teachers and therapists if this is felt to be helpful.

The next visit is 90 minutes in length.  This is a summary conference with the parents only.  At this time, Dr. Danis will discuss the results of the assessment and recommendations for intervention.

Three Years of Age and Up: Three visits with possible extra testing at hourly rate plus written summary.

  • First visit - one hour parent interview,
  • Second visit - two hour testing with child, with possible extra testing scheduled after that meeting
  • Third visit - 90 minute summary conference with parents,
  • Detailed report including recommendations

The evaluation takes place over three visits with extra testing possible. The first visit is an interview with the parents only. This visit takes about one hour. At this time, Dr. Danis will take a complete history of your child and go into detail about your current concerns. The second visit is a two-hour testing session with the child. At that time, Dr. Danis will work with your child to assess fine and gross motor skills, language development, visual processing, auditory processing, attention, and memory skills. The visit concludes with a physical examination. After the visit, Dr. Danis makes phone calls to teachers or therapists familiar with the child if this is felt to be helpful. Extra testing, if necessary will be scheduled for some time after that visit.

The third visit is a summary conference with the parents; this visit is 90 minutes in length. At this time, Dr. Danis will describe her findings and discuss her recommendations for intervention.

Consultations:  Many patients who come to see Dr. Danis have already had comprehensive diagnostic assessments elsewhere.  Dr. Danis is available to provide guidance for treatment planning in these cases.  Dr. Danis will review each situation individually to determine if a consultation will give her enough information to provide this guidance; a full assessment may be preferable even in cases in which a diagnosis has been established. The consultation includes a review of records, a one-hour parent interview and a one-hour session with the child and parents together.  For some families, combining these two appointments may be preferable.  A written statement of treatment recommendations is provided after the consultation is completed.
